Baslow - 9th August 2025

I hadn't made any plans to go walking this weekend, as I had hoped that me and Donna would do something. But with the weather set to warm up for the next week or so, Donna suggested that if I could go walking, that I should.

And as Stuart had asked a few days prior, if anyone was available, I was then free to put my name in the hat. Darrell is only holiday, Tony working, and Malc tired from playing golf, so just me and Stu.

So as usual, the walking area of choice would be the Peak District, I would pick Stu up on the way as I have to go within a couple of minutes of his house, and we headed over to Baslow. After parking up, just over the old bridge we set off on the uphill trek to Baslow Edge. It's a fairly tough start to a walk, but not enough so that you need to stop for breath, although it does push up the heart rate.

We were passed by a few charity walking as we went up, and soon found out that it was a large charity hike, 26 miles for Alzheimers. So, we found ourselves on the same route for about 75% of our walk. It did get really busy on some sections which wasn't ideal, and frustratingly quite a few of the walkers had speakers in their rucksacks so it ruined to quietness of nature. All for a good cause though.

Our walk was 7 miles, and to be honest we both said that these days that's about right for us, as 60+ year old joints don't stand up to the pressure like they used to.

The reward at the end of the walk was a lovely hot drink from Charlie's, where me and Donna often got for a meal when we fancy a run out. By 1:30pm I was home safe and sound.
