It was great to have another day when both of the girls were available, so we could plan a day out.
Olivia had mentioned, I think, when we went to Scarborough, that she would like to go to the Butterfly House again. And as Millie hadn't been before, it would be nice to head over. Plus, as it is only 5 minutes from home, a real bonus.
I booked the tickets for 10am entry, just as they open. What was a little frustrating is that you had to enter via the gift shop, which is madness. You can imagine how busy it is in there, trying to get all the kids through when all they can see around them are shelves full of gifts!
Anyway, we managed to get through and set off on our journey around the park. The girls loved it; it was great to see them taking turns to 'race' to see how their speeds compared to different animals. Olivia was consistently just a little speedier than a Red squirrel. Not a bad achievement.
We decided to have lunch a little early, around 11:30am, as Olivia had been mentioning snacks, and we didn't want to spoil the pasta meals that Sophie had prepared for them. They wolfed their lunches down. It was so funny, as there is a Peacock that just roams the grounds, and it did a big 'plop' just as it passed Olivia's seat. We did all have a laugh 😂
After lunch, we went into the actual butterfly house, the tropical building where you don't know where to look, as there are so many butterflies swarming around the building. And boy, is it humid in there. Olivia loved having the butterflies land on her hand last year, but this time around she wasn't as keen and didn't want to stay in there, so we missed out on seeing some of the other stuff, which I am sure she would have enjoyed. But we have seen it before, so not really an issue.
Our route took us into the various play areas, where Donna and Millie spent a lot of time enjoying the 'beach' area, and I took Olivia into the area for older kids. She was so brave climbing up a tower, across a caged walkway, and then down an enclosed slide. It can be a little frustrating in some of those areas as some kids, mainly the lads, are just left to 'terrorise' some of the attractions, with their parents not in sight.
Around an hour later, we all headed back towards the cafe, where we all had a Magnum as an afternoon treat. Soon after, we popped Millie into her pushchair for a nap as she was getting very tired, and we spent a little more time walking back through the park, followed by a visit to the cafe whilst Millie finished her sleep. It was now around 3:45pm, so time to head home.
