Just over a week ago, I was looking to see if there were any tickets available for the England v Fiji rugby, and although there were a few, the forecast for a hot day put me off buying them. And it did actually turn out to be a stroke of luck, as Jake asked if we wanted to join the family at Scarborough, and of course we jumped at the chance.
The forecast was for it to be much cooler on the east coast, with cloud cover all day. And that suited us down to the ground.

So come 7:30am on the Saturday morning, we hit the road on the 2hr trip to the 'seaside'; and Jake, Sophie and the girls headed off around the same time. We pulled in to the underground car park at the end of the Spa, and as I was paying at the ticket machine, their car appeared down the ramp, so great timing. And around 20 minutes or so later, we were camped on the beach just in front of the rear wall. Jake and Sophie had a great windbreak big enough to shelter all our chairs and other stuff.

And what a great day we had. We were on the beach for around 6 hours, so as you can imagine, there were many holes dug in the sand, lots of sandcastles built, and frequent visits into the sea. I surprised myself by going swimming in the sea, and both Olivia and I loved being buried in sand, just our heads protruding above the piles of sand that Jake and Millie had used to bury us. The girls just loved it.
Around midday, Millie needed her usual power nap, and Donna loved the fact that Millie went to sleep in her arms. Whilst she was asleep, Jake and I went onto the front to seek out fish and chips. It's not often that Donna and I have them on the sea-front as they aren't always the best, but to be honest they weren't too bad and certainly filled a hole. For me at least, Donna just had a handful of chips.

By around mid-afternoon we packed up our stuff and went back to the cars to drop everything off, so that we could head for an ice-cream. It was really busy on the front, so a bit of a challenge winding our way through the crowds. Before the ice-creams we stopped off at the RNLI station for a look at the boat, and there the girls both bought RNLI teddy bears.
We all had an ice cream, apart from Jake, who wanted to wait and have a waffle, but unfortunately some of Olivia's ended up on the floor, as did Millie's as she dropped her tub of vanilla and strawberry. Thankfully, Olivia had already eaten most of hers, whereas for Millie the 'trauma' was more upsetting.

As we headed back along the front, the girls enjoyed an hour in the arcade. Olivia loved all the challenges, and she came first in a racing game, whereas for Millie it was more the sights and sounds that made her smile.
Our journey home started around 5:30pm, and what a great day had been had by all.
