One of our favourite historic places to visit, is Burton Agnes Hall, around 20 minutes inland of Bridlington. It's a stunning building, with neat grounds, an old church and hall, and a lovely walled garden.
So given the time of year, and Donna's love of plants we decided to head off for the 3hr round-trip and enjoy some time out in the summer weather.

We left around 10am, arriving in the car park around 11:30am, where before going in we had a sandwich, which I had collected earlier in the day from the bakery in Harthill; we do love their sandwiches.
One thing we were a little surprised at, was that being a Saturday, and in July, we thought it would be really busy, but it was not. Which didn't bother us as it meant that we would be following crowds around. That said, maybe a little more footfall might benefit the house and gardens.
We went around the house first, just enjoying some of the descriptions of the rooms and some of the stories of what they were used for in the past, and telling us about the paintings and the other historic items.

Then, after a short break at the cafe, we headed off around the gardens. Even though we had missed peak for many of the roses, and some other flowers, it was still a lovely place to be when the sun is out. I am always amazed that there's hardly a plant that Donna doesn't know the name of!
At around 3pm, we headed back to the car having enjoyed a lovely day together.
