Ladybower - 26th May 2025

We have been really lucky for the last couple of months, with lots of records broken for the amount of sunshine and the lack of rain. It's not often you can say such a thing about the UK weather in Spring.

So as this morning was expected to be another dry one, Donna and I decided to head out early for a walk, getting up at 4am!

By around 5:45am, we were parked up on Ashopton Viaduct, and not surprisingly, we were in the prime parking spot. It was so quiet. Unfortunately, the wall-to-wall sunshine when we left home had deserted us, but we still had plenty of blue sky, at least for the first hour.

We spent nearly three hours walking around the reservoir; it was so nice to have it so quiet. In fact, we had walked almost the length of the eastern bank before we saw another person. It was great not to be having to watch out for speeding cyclists all the time!

The reservoir itself is far lower than normal for this time of year, which was expected due to the recent weather as mentioned above, but nowhere near the barren levels of a few years ago, when we could see all the remains of the village of Derwent that was once there.

By a little after 9:30am, we were back home, and I was wondering if I would manage to last the day without a little nap.
