Chatsworth - 4th February 2024

Getting out with my walking pals is a real challenge these days. Family life and jobs at home tend to take priority, and myself and Donna like to go and watch Rotherham Titans rugby so that fills many of our Saturdays. Plus of course, what seems to have been a winter of almost constant rain.

Today I was free, however, the only friend available was Stu so we arranged to meet up in Baslow around 8:30am.

It was a steady walk planned, under grey skies and with a forecast for rain. We took the popular path down through the Chatsworth Estate, and it was amazing today just how many deer were around. Maybe because the parkland is much quieter this time of year? It was a little damp underfoot and very muddy in places, but given the flat ground, there was little risk of ending up on your backside!

We turned west at Calton Lees and then headed up into New Piece Wood before crossing the fields and taking the track down into Edensor. Only about a mile left to Baslow, and apart from a cafe stop for a buttie and warm drink, we were back after a little over 3hrs.
