This walk was arranged at fairly short notice, the day before, and I did late on Saturday start to have second thoughts. Why? Well myself and Donna had spent most of Saturday at Jake's house, and filling up a 4-ton skip with rubble, plus moving shale and digging, had really taken it out of me.
And on top of that we had selected a challenging route, something that I hadn't done a lot in the last 6 months due to our general lack of hiking.

However today was a special day, I say that as Malcolm was available for the first time in around 12 months. I think it was partly as he wanted to drive me in his new Tesla Model Y, but he did also say that he needed to get back walking.
We met up in the main car-park in Edale at just before 8:30am, and within minutes were heading up through Edale village. As we reached the pub, it was now time to turn left and head along the Pennine Way.
The first part of the walk takes you up a little as you traverse the side of a hill, and then you drop down into Upper Booth before heading to Jacobs Ladder. Now this is where it gets challenging as the next half of a mile or so is all uphill; and to make it worse it started to rain, so coats on.

I was a little shattered by the time we arrived to take the left-hand turn over Brown Knoll towards Rushup Edge. The cloud was low here so there was an eerie atmosphere as you crossed the moors with its heather now almost in full bloom.
Eventually, we reached the top of Chapel Gate so we took the path back downhill towards Barbrs Booth, and then along the road back into Edale. Around 10 miles walked in total and close to 1,800ft of ascent. I definitely needed an easy Sunday afternoon, and thankfully I got one.
