I didn't have any plans to go out for a hike today as it was rugby in the afternoon for myself and Donna, so I didn't want to risk getting back too late, given that it's a 40-mile round-trip for me to get to the area where we mostly walk.
However, Darrell messaged late Friday afternoon to see if anyone was available Saturday, so I told him I could be if the walk wasn't long.
So we met up at Burbage Bridge car-park a little after 8am. When I left home the car was showing -5c so clearly it would be a cold one out in the Peaks. I drove through fog on the way there, but out there it was lovely and clear with colourful skies. The only fog on view was hanging in the valleys, with just the tops on show.
Our route took us down the slippery Sheffield Country Walk and into the Longshaw Estate where we took the route along the stream before heading back up and across the road. We headed over towards Surprise view, then around Burbage Moor and over Higger Tor. By the time we arrived back at the car we had covered around 6 miles and hiked for two and a quarter hours.
Later in the day however it was a little frustrating when we arrived for the Rotherham v Wharfedale game, to find it was cancelled 40 minutes before kick-off due to a frozen pitch!
