Afternoon Tea - 31st January 2023

On our way up to Northumberland the plan had been to visit the Running Fox for afternoon tea, as they do the best afternoon teas. Not the fancy small portions that you get at most places, but large portions of 'proper' food. However, as their bakeries are so popular there were no bookings available, so we booked for Tuesday as it's only a 25-minute drive away.

As the weather here has been great so far, apart from the very strong winds, we decided to head out for a couple of hours in the morning at high tide to enjoy what the winds bring with them, crashing waves. And we weren't disappointed.

Our booking at the Running Fox was for 1pm so we left the cottage at 12:30pm, and spent around an hour in the cafe. And of course, it didn't disappoint and as always, we had to box up some of the fare on offer.

The hope was that we could go for a beach walk near Boulmer after we had eaten, but it was just too windy and as it was dry, the sand was whipping up and into your face so it wouldn't have been pleasant. Instead, we went across to Alnwick to pick up some provisions before heading back to the cottage.

After an hour or so I headed back down onto the beach in readiness for sunset, but unfortunately, although 90% of the sky was clear, there was a bank of clouds covering the sun so we never got the colours hoped for. Plus, I couldn't get the long-exposure photos I was planning for as the wind was just too strong. That said I did come away with a couple of nice photos, it was a really enjoyable hour or so and a chilled way to end the day.
