Sandsend - 13th November 2022

And on to another week in Whitby, and back at Buffers where we stayed a couple of times during 2021.

On our drive up on Saturday, we stopped off at Flamborough Head for an hour or so, more to pass some time before the expected 4pm availability to get into Buffers, but we were treated to a surprise. A good amount of seals were on the rocky ground below the cliffs, it was low tide so they were enjoying the chance just to chill out on the rocks. A bit of a result.

So on to today, we always have the intention to do some of the same walks as we always do when we are up here, and this week would be no different. Yes, we could find somewhere else to go, but sometimes it's nice just to switch off and not think about where you are going.

Our plan for the start of the walk was to take in the Remembrance Event in the town, however, we assumed that the end of the harbour was at the piers, it was not, it was about half a mile back into the town where we had congregated a couple of years ago for the same event!

Never mind. So after a walk out onto the end of the west pier, it was time to walk along the sands up the coast to the gorgeous village of Sandsend. It was a busy day so the beach was fairly busy with people taking advantage of the fresh air and nice weather. Is it really mid-November?

There's probably not a lot more to say that I haven't said before in regard to the walk. That said, we were surprised at the cliffs just past the village as they did seem to have been affected by the weather more than the last time we were here, with lots of broken sections in the layers of rock, some forming windows, and revealing new interesting formations.

We stopped off for a cuppa before heading back along the coast, we needed a warm drink now as the temperature was just starting to drop. By around 4pm we were back at Buffers, a 6-hour outing, and now time to eat and chill out.
