Burton Agnes - 19th November 2022

Our favourite 'country house' is Burton Agnes, a few miles inland from Bridlington. And the best two times to visit it, are in the summer when the stunning walled garden is in full bloom, and around Christmas when it is decorated for the festive season.

What makes it so special this time of year is that many of the decorations are made locally, and quite a lot of them by local school children, which makes it a little more special than most places. Many of the really big houses such as Castle Howard and Chatsworth are beautiful in their own way, but just feel a little 'Hollywood' and lack that more homely feel.

We also did a little good deed whilst in the house as an old lady had fallen and hurt her arm, so we spent time with her, her daughter, and her granddaughter, looking after her before the staff from the house got her into a wheelchair and ready to take to A&E.

Before leaving we popped into the cafe for lemon and blueberry cake and a drink, then did a little Christmas shopping in the site shop, then into the car for home.
