Llanddwyn Island - 10th October 2022

Every time we come to Anglesey we always visit this place, it is one of my favourite places in the UK, especially when the weather is fine as it was today.

There was no point in setting off too early as high tide near the island was 10:14am, and that meant that for an hour or two the island is cut off from the mainland. So we left around 10:30am for the 45-minute drive directly across the island down to the car park at Newborough.

It's a great walk up this beach, backed by dunes and a pine plantation, even when the sea is in as it was this morning and lines of pebbles lie along the shoreline. Great views across to Snowdonia, sat there under moody skies, but we were bathed in sunshine as we walked the mile or so to Llanddwyn Island.

We spent a good two and a half hours on the island, we managed to catch sight of a number of seals, visited both the old and new lighthouse, and the numerous religious sights on the island. The rocks there off the coast peeking out from the turquoise sea carry so much geological history, so many different types from when tectonic activity created the island.

Our last port of call was Trearddur Bay, not to enjoy the delights of the bay, although we did have a brief walk on there a little later, but for a meal at the Sea Shanty cafe; one which offers great reviews. And it didn't disappoint as we both enjoyed our meals. Definitely somewhere we would visit again.

Then back to the house, and an evening in the hot-tub watching the stars.
