It was around 15 years ago that myself and Donna started hiking, we had spent most of our adult lives with little interest in venturing into the hills with a big pair of boots on our feet. And for the first 2 or 3 years, we stayed in Settle, enjoying the delights of the Yorkshire Dales.
And our first 'hike' was the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, a steady hike of 4.5 miles (plus the walk back to the car-park), with its many water-based natural features to enjoy along the way. So today we would head back over the border into Yorkshire and re-trace our steps.

We had read on the internet that there was now a charge of £8 per adult to do the walk, which is on private land, and that put many people off. But, when you consider the upkeep of the trail, and the fact that you pay £5-£7 anyway for most national park car-parks, we didn't mind paying.
The walk takes you up one valley carved out by the River Twiss, and returning down another one which the River Doe did its best to slice into the countryside. And both parts do not disappoint, particularly in my opinion the second half where there are more cascading falls through a narrower gorge.

There is a section at the top where you walk through the open countryside, and as was the case when we were here all those years ago, there sits the ice-cream van waiting to take advantage of the walkers passing by. It would be rude not to...
It was around 7pm when we arrived back at the cottage, and of course, time for feet up.
