Well, this was a day that nearly turned out to be a bit of a disaster!
A couple of days ago I had paid for two tickets for the Ravenglass to Eskdale, a narrow-gauge steam train. A ride that takes you 7 miles from the coast, into the hills. Plus, I had upgraded to the Joan Observation Carriage; with lovely crimson velvet seats to add to the comfort.
However, we were sitting in the carriage when they came to check our tickets, and oops, I had actually booked for the 13th; what a muppet. Now we had driven nearly an hour and a half to get here so it could have been a long wasted drive, but, thankfully they were able to change our tickets so we could still travel today.

The ride was 40 minutes through some beautiful countryside, and with the sun occasionally breaking through the clouds it looked resplendent. Our stop at the end was a little rushed, we had booked to do the return journey which only gave us a 40-minute stop, and it took half that time to get a drink at the station cafe so we didn't get much time to enjoy the views.
After arriving back at Ravenglass, it would have been a bit of a waste not to have seen at least one of the lakes, so we drove a further 25 minutes to get to the shores of Wast Water, with the view that a couple of years ago was voted the best in England. We had been here many years ago, and it's not a view you want to miss if you happen to be anywhere near this area.

Today was a time that we have to thank Google Maps, it kept us away from the main roads and took us over the hills in both directions; some stunning scenery and views. And of course lots of sheep sharing the roads with us.
By the time we got back it was late afternoon so we knocked up some bacon and egg sandwiches, and now time to just switch off.
