Well according to the weather forecast we were expecting 40+mph winds today, however, when we checked the weather apps this morning the winds had reduced in intensity somewhat, they were now showing as mid 20's so still rather windy on the coast.
Today would be a longer one than normal, our outing, of course, today would still be 24hrs long...ha ha. We left a little after 10am, and didn't get back to the cottage until 7:15pm. Back in the dark, which is almost unheard of for us!

We spent the first few hours of the day 30 minutes up the coast, on Lindisfarne, otherwise known as Holy Island. The causeway was open from around 9:30am to 4:30pm, outside of that period you would have to swim across.
It was lovely and sunny, but the winds were strong so there was little choice other than to stay well wrapped up in winter clothing. We had a good walk around part of the island, around the bay and the castle, and out to the daymark that sailors use to guide themselves into the bay. Then coffee and cake before we jumped back into the car at around 2:30pm.
Our next stop was another 30 minutes up the coast, Berwick-On-Tweed, just on the border with Scotland. The first part of our visit was along the pier, and we had planned to go out to the famous red and white lighthouse that guides the entrance to the Tweed Estuary, however as we approached the lighthouse there was a large wave come over the wall so we decided to progress no further.

After spending a short while on the beach we headed up onto the town walls and walked around the perimeter of the town, checking out the fortifications that in the past made this such a hard place for anyone to take under their control. For the last hour or so we headed down the river walk alongside the Tweed, taking in the three bridges that cross the river at this famous little town. The arches lit up by the setting sun.
Just a 45-minute drive back down the coast, time to warm up back in the cosy cottage.
