One of our planned outings for this week was a boat trip around the Farne Islands. Due to the time of the year there are no trips where you can get off onto the islands and see the thousands of breeding birds, it's still a month or so too early, but you can go on a 90 minute trip to check out the islands and the seal colony from the sea.
We weren't sure exactly which day we would go, but as today was another sunny one, and the winds were light, best to make hay and all that. Especially given that the winds are expected to increase somewhat over the next couple of days.

The sailing we had booked on was the 11:15am, and to be honest we were expecting it to be quite empty given that it was a weekday and still early in the year. However, we were surprised to find that there were over 20 people on board the Serendipity.
The journey did not disappoint, there were great conditions to be out at sea, and lots of seals sunbathing on the rocks and swimming in the seas around the islands. Plus, even though it is a little early, still lots of birds on the cliffs. And as a bonus we even saw two Puffins which were there much earlier than expected.

After arriving back at the harbour around 1pm, we did a little shopping in Seahouses then headed back to the cottage to sit and read for a few hours.
Given that it was a lovely evening, we headed out at around 5pm and went for a walk along the beach to just enjoy the sounds of the sea as the sun went down below the horizon. A lovely end to the day.
