Abandon Trip - 6th February 2022

The first hike out with the chaps for a few weeks, the usual faces were available; myself (of course), Darrell, Tony and Malcolm. I did however when I awoke at 4:30am wonder if anyone would bail out, as the wind and rain out there did pose some questions.

However, no cry-offs, so I picked up Malcolm at 7:10am, the Tony at 7:25am, and we met Darrell in the hamlet of Shatton at around 8am.

The route I had planned would take in paths that I had walked before, but all as part of other routes. This would be a new circular walk of around 9 miles, up and around Shatton and Offerton Moors. However, as we set off walking in the wind and rain, I did start to have reservations about whether we should cut the walk short.

After about an hour, as we reached Wolf's Pit, I decided to head left instead of right and take the route I had done on a number of occasions, this would know some time off the hike. Don't get me wrong, there were some breaks in the rain when we occasionally saw rays of sun shining over the fields, but most of the time, particularly as we were high up, the wind and rain was relentless.

As we reached the junction where ordinarily we would head right across the field, a brief conversation between the four of us resulted in the decision to head back down the lane into Shatton.

By the time we reached the cars we had done around 7 miles and walked for two and a half hours, and all we wanted to do was remove our wet clothing and get in a dry car. Walk over for today.
