After travelling up to Whitby yesterday and then spending a couple of hours late afternoon enjoying the sunset, today we would ordinarily keep away from the weekend crowds.

However, Jake did message me on Saturday night to say that Sophie and he may surprise us with a visit but to keep it as a surprise for Donna. And as Cilla would say "surprise surprise" as around 10:30am they knocked at the door.
It was great to see them both, and their plan was to spend a few hours with us so it really made our day. After an hour and a half just catching up, we donned walking attire and headed off down into Whitby. Jake has never been here before, and it is somewhere that Sophie wasn't a regular visitor to.

By now we were all a little hungry so our first stop off was at Trenchers, winner of the 2019 National Chip Shop awards. We found a bench and enjoyed our Sunday lunch. Not the one we were expecting, but much better given the company.
We then spent a couple of hours just walking around the town and nattering, before heading back to the cottage for a quick cuppa before it was time for them to set off back home. And by 3:30pm we were back on our own, and ready to spend some time chilling out away from the crowds.
