Stanage Edge - 19th December 2021

Out with the chaps today for a hike, well chap, as only Tony was available. At least it means that you don't have too many people to try to please with a meet-up time. Still no point going too early this time of year as it's dark, so we arranged to meet at Dennis Knoll car-park high above Hathersage, at 8am.

Again the conditions were great for hiking, even though I had thought differently as I drove for nearly an hour in fog to get there. But thankfully, although not exactly up in the heavens, we were high enough for our walk to keep us above the fog in the valleys.

We headed along the lane that skirts Bole Hill, up and down the narrow track until we stepped over the style near the top of Bamford Clough. Now in the past when I had done this route, it was over Bamford Edge we would go, but this time a new track over Bamford and Moscar Moor, which on paper looked a well-marked route.

But how wrong I was, the paths were almost impossible to find and we walked for about a mile and a half trudging through dead heather and other moorland scrubs and of course lots of patches of hidden water which kept catching us both out.

Eventually, we reached Stanage Edge and the walk was now a steady one with great views out over the stunning countryside. A brilliant walk.
