We did have a good number of available hikers for today's outing with my walking buddies. However, due to a mix up we lost one as there had been a miscommunication and Colin was sat at the end of the road awaiting his pick up, but nobody arrived. But, still myself, Malcolm who I picked up, Darrell, Tony and Nigel, and Darrell's mate Pete who I have walked with on a few occasions in the past.

Today's Peak District starting point would be the historical plague village of Eyam - check out the link if you don't know it's history. It's a lovely little village with it's own museum, but it does get busy this time of year so get there early to make sure you can take advantage of the free parking.
Our walk took us west along Tideswell Lane which is a lovely track through lots of fields with dry-stone walls, some are much smaller than you are used to, so the walls are much more frequent and just layer out in front of you. We continued along a less well marked path before turning right and heading towards Great Hucklow, where upon arrival we took a seat and grabbed some food and drink. Not a long stop, and given that it was only around 10am, I just had an energy bar and an apple.

After heading up the steep hill out of the back of the village it was time to turn east, along Hucklow Edge and then over to Eyam Edge. We had to spend more time than expected walking along the narrow lane, as the path I had planned for us to take was closed off in relation to a heritage site - something I would need to look up later.
The last section was a steep drop down through the woods and back into the village, we had covered nearly 10 miles and walked for 4hrs. Thankfully it was a dry day, and thankfully we didn't have the heat and humidity of the previous week which would have made the walk difficult. So all in all a great little outing.
