Destination Change - 17th July 2021

Walking pals were a little sparse on the ground this week, most of them had other commitments so there was only myself and Colin heading out for a walk in the Peaks.

I picked Colin up at 7:45am and after he had raised concerns about the walk due to the heat, I hastily made a change to the plans for the walk. I had planned to park where we had done last week, next to Moscar Lodge, but this time head in the opposite direction. It would be around 8.5 miles taking in Stanage Edge and looping around past Redmires Reservoir.

However, instead we just drove a few miles further to walk near Ladybower Reservoir. We parked up on Ashopton Viaduct and then headed uphill, taking the path from the main road up to Crook Hill from where we continued over Bridge-end pasture before taking a path back down through the trees to the side of the reservoir. It was quite open on the top and therefore with the heat, even though it was early, we were glad when we entered the cover of the trees to take some shelter from the sun.

The rest of the walk was a path I have trodden many times before, around the perimeter of the reservoir and of course, quite a lot of shade as a bonus. By the time we arrived back at the car it had been a steady 3hr walk. Now time to head home for a welcome shower.
