Another hot day down on the Dorset Coast, and as with yesterday, being the weekend we wanted to keep away from the areas that are likely to draw the crowds so chose to take a 30 minute drive inland to Forde Abbey, just a few miles from Chard over the border in Devon.
We visited the place when we were here 5 years ago, and remembered the beautiful gardens, the wild flower meadows and ornate lakes. And again it didn't disappoint, although to be honest this time around the walled garden did look a little empty; maybe another consequence of Covid?

The visit there was really enjoyable though, yes it was hot but there's plenty of shade around to keep you from getting frazzled, and apart from the walled garden as already mentioned, the rest of the place looked well. Our visit there was around 3hrs, so now off to Chard to do a little shopping then back to the cottage.
We spent the afternoon sat on the decking at the bottom of the garden, mainly in the shade just sat reading, and the occasional foray out into the sun to soak up some rays. And of course a lager and lime to quench the thirst.
At 6:30pm we headed out for a walk. There are some hills just in front of us, across the fields, which are in fact the southern edge of England so actually 'half hills' as the parts you can't see are the cliff faces that drop down to the shingle beach with nothing in front of you other than the English Channel. Our walk took us up to the cliff edge, then along the south west coastal path down into Seatown.

I had planned to have another swim in the sea, but the beach was still packed with people and to be honest we were both now really hot and sticky, so couldn't be bothered with trying to get a drink at the Anchor Inn. Instead we just headed back to the cottage and enjoyed some time at the bottom of the garden before retiring into the cottage for the final episode of SAS Who Dares Wins.
