On the Road Again - 15th May 2021

Over the last couple of days I'd been thinking about another week away from home, not that I have any days leave to take but I just fancied seeing four different walls again. That said, the walls we would be seeing for the week wouldn't be that different as we chose to come back to the same cottage in Whitby where we had stayed just a few weeks ago.

I had looked at a few different options, obviously being a last minute booking meant that where we could go would be limited. I'd found a nice bungalow next to the beach in North Wales, but as I would be working during the day we really needed to go somewhere that Donna knew well so that she could find things to do during the day whilst I was working. Hence coming back to Whitby which we know so well.

We left a little later in the day as I was having my second Covid jab at 9am and Jake was visiting in the morning, so the plan was to head straight to the cottage and get unpacked. We wouldn't be visiting anywhere on the way up as there wasn't the time and the weather forecast wasn't great.

Around 6:15pm we decided to head out for a walk, our initial plan to go out for an hour or so turned into a near 4 hour outing. We headed down into Whitby and then along the front, about half way towards Sandsend. It was high tide and although it didn't feel that windy, the waves were crashing against the sea wall, with walkers frequently getting sprayed as the sea splashed over onto the promenade and splattered the beach huts.

I took my 10-stop filter for it's first run out, but to be honest it was a little too breezy and with a shutter speed of 1 minute and the breeze, having a quick look on the rear of the camera it did look like there was some shake in the photos which is impossible to control to be honest.

Before heading back we spent 20 minutes at Clara's cafe on the top of West Cliff, both of us had a hot chocolate whilst enjoying the views out to sea, and having a nice chat with a local fellow who owned a couple of businesses down the coast. By the time we arrived back at the cottage it was around 10'o'clock - so much for it being a short walk.
