Steady Day - 18th April 2021

To be honest even through we only walked around 7 miles yesterday, I was shattered, in fact I slept in until 8:30am which is rather late for me. Plus after my first sports massage in 4 months, I had lots of aches and pains in my back so just fancied a fairly chilled Sunday.

We had brought our Lafuma garden chairs, so decided to spend a few hours sat out in the sun. Ok it was only around 11c so for some almost frosty, but in the sun trap on the back of the cottage it was just warm enough for us, in fact for an hour I had my t-shirt off. Good job nobody walked past or they may have been phoning the coast guard citing a stranded whale!

We sat out for lunch, and planned to relax in the cottage for the afternoon and then maybe head into Whitby later when the crowds had gone.

At around 4pm we headed off down into the town, for what ended up being an evening walk of over 5 miles. Our expectation (ok hope) was that the town would now be almost deserted with all day trippers having set off on their journeys back home, but people were clearly hanging around that little longer to take advantage of the spring sunshine.

Before heading out along the pier we grabbed an ice-cream, rum and raising for Donna and banana split + salted caramel for me....delicious. However, we were not the only ones who thought that the ice-cream was nice, so did Donna's 'attacker'. That coastal pest, the seagull, swooped by and tried to grab Donna's cone leaving a scratch down the side of her neck. We'd heard the rumours, but this was our first experience of the vicious bird in action.

After that trauma, we managed to spend another hour or so walking the now quieter streets of the town before heading back uphill in the direction of our home for the week. Back at 7:15pm, now time for tea and feet up.
