Six Merry Men - 3rd April 202`1

Yesterday I managed to get for the first 'official' post lockdown walk with Donna, and today I had the freedom to meet up with my walking buddies for the first time in 3 months.

Because of Covid we still can't have Colin with us as he doesn't drive and we can't pick him up, but there were six of us all chomping at the bit to get out. Myself, Malcolm, Nigel, Darrell, Stuart and Tony. It had been 3 months since I last walked with Darrell, Tony and Nigel, but considerably longer since Malcolm and Stuart were free to come along.

The forecast for today was a cold start but a dry day ahead, in fact by the end of the walk it was very sunny and starting to get rather warm. Spring warm that is, not the blazing heat of summer.

So I planned the route, and we would walk the path that myself and Tony did in August last year; starting just outside Bamford, taking the path over the dam wall and along the shore of Ladybower Reservoir, then up to Hope Cross, along the Roman Road and continuing up to the peak of Win Hill. And then of course, the very steep drop back down to the reservoir.

The walk saw us cover around 9 miles with 1,750ft of ascent so a decent workout, and took us close to four and a half hours. As you would expect there was a lot of catching up to do, lots of rubbish talked about, plenty of banter and just generally taking the p*ss out of each other!

It really was so good just to be out seeing different people and talking about different things. Lets hope that we are now through the worst of Covid so that regular walks out with Donna and my mates don't become a rarity.
