Clumber Park - 27th February 2021

For the last couple of months we have been 'good Covid citizens', in that we have kept very local for our walks. But to be honest, as with most people it is really starting to get me down and sometimes you have to rebel a little, as long of course that you aren't putting anyone at risk. The need just to see something different was very strong, and although we did still stay relatively local we did head over to Clumber Park which is a 15-20 minute drive. It's now 2 months since we have been that far from home!

As we know, myself and Donna prefer to get out walking as early as we can, well fairly early anyway, which means that we can enjoy the benefit of not having to share our walks with too many other people and in somewhere like Clumber, we don't have to keep moving out of the way of cyclists who often appear to look at those walking as inferior.

But, Clumber Park wasn't allowing visitors in before 9am, and you did have to book your slot so we couldn't leave home until around 8:35am. Of course, you can choose to visit the wider parkland earlier and either walk around the outer areas or walk into the main area where the lake is, the choice is yours.

The weather was really nice to enjoy the 5 mile stroll. Yes getting there earlier to take advantage of the pink sky and cold frost would have been perfect, but we can't complain as being February, it could just as well have been throwing it down.

It was the first time that we'd been to Clumber since they had finished the renovation of the historic bridge that vandals had severely damaged a few years ago when they rammed their way over the bridge in a stolen car, leaving much of the ornate stonework in the lake below. Yes the new stone does look a little odd against the old stone, but they have made a really good job of the work - well done to the National Trust.

By the time we arrived back at the car our walk had taken us a tad over 2hrs, and by now as you can imagine there wasn't a car parking space to be found. Now we know why we go early...
