No post for yesterday, it ended up being a bit of a rest day. The weather was a bit hit and miss, some rain but in the main just grey and dreary with low cloud hiding the hill behind the cottage. We did however spend about 90 minutes last night down on Scarborough South Bay, just enjoying the walk and the relative peace and quiet of a midweek evening on the coast.
And so to today. A relatively early start was the order of the day, albeit no too early as we wanted to catch the high tide and that was around 8:45am. So we left the cottage at 7:45am and headed down to the Spa on Scarborough sea-front. And we weren't disappointed, ok not exactly a storm but some decent waves crashing over the sea wall.

After a couple of hours we went back to the car, then headed up the coast, almost 40 miles up to Saltburn
It was quite a nice morning, with a good sprinkling of sun warming up the October air. The main reason that I wanted to visit Saltburn was to see the Victorian Pier. I'd seen it a few times before but I don't recall visiting when the tide was in; not all the way, but still it majestically lapped the legs of the structure supporting the pier. We also took advantage of the nice weather and sat outside at a sea-front cafe enjoying a hot chocolate each, and the views out to sea.

Our next stop of the day was on the way back south, at the historic fishing port of Staithes with it's steep walk down the hill from the car-park to the front. I must admit that we were surprised at how busy it was, but pleased also as it was good to see some of the local businesses getting some money over the counter given the challenging last 6 months.
The plan was to visit Robin Hoods Bay as we continued down the coast, but to be honest as we approached the turn off we had been out for 7hrs and I was getting a little weary - well I am 57 years old tomorrow! So we continued on our way and spent a couple of hours watching The Good, The Bad and the Rugby, back at the cottage.
And on to tonight, a treat for me as Donna was taking me out for a birthday meal. Our table was booked for 6pm and we enjoyed a lovely meal at Ask Italian on the front in Scarborough. A lovely end to the day.
