The weather forecast for the rest of the week has taken a bit of a downturn, with lots of rain and heavy cloud expected to come up from the south-west and smother the area. And today it wasn't wrong.
We didn't do much in the morning, just hung around the cottage looking out through the array of windows across the open fields, just the odd farmhouse in the distance to break up the views of the rolling fields. So with our feet up we watched a little TV, and of course spend quite a bit of time on the laptop/tablet/phone - oh what did we do before such technology?

After lunch we decided to brave the rain and packed our waterproof gear into the car. Just a visit to Waitrose in Hexham, and then to The Sill discovery center before we headed over to the car-park just below Housesteads Fort. This area would bring back loads of great memories as in 2018 we stayed in the remote National Trust cottage right next to the remains of the Roman Fort.

Our hike wasn't a long one, we covered around 5 miles with some sections along Hadrians Wall, and some across the fields to the north of the wall. And, very muddy grazing fields they were! We were back to the car around 3:30pm, I hadn't taken many photos given the weather as it was a constant battle to keep the lens dry, and to be honest it was so dull out there any photos wouldn't have been up to much.
Only around 45 minutes back to the cottage, a very tasty Caesar (roman link there) Salad for tea followed by a relaxing evening in.
