Bright and Early - 15th August 2020

Now when I say 'bright', I was definitely not referring to the weather. Thankfully we had lost the hot and very humid temperatures of early in the week, so thankful for that, but unfortunately it had gone the other way and was now very dull with low cloud giving that horrible sticky feel to proceedings.

Today's walk was with Donna, and as is always the case when we are out walking, it would be an early one. Alarm set for 5am, and by 6:40am we were setting off from the car at Burbage Bridge car-park. We were the 4th car to arrive, that said, maybe the other 3 were overnight as we did see a large tent with someone wild camping.

It was a shame that we didn't have lots of lovely morning light as at this time of the year much of the area is swathed in glorious Heather, and ok it still looks nice when it is grey and dull, the light hitting those lovely pink and purple blooms looks that bit extra special in the right conditions.

We headed down the Sheffield Country Walk for the first part of the walk, as that tends to get busier the later you are on it. When we reached the bottom we crossed the road and into the Longshawe Estate and headed down Burbage Brook before picking up the path back over the A6187 and then on to the rocky outcrops of Mother Cap, over to Higger Tor and then back to the car.

Our route was a little over 7 miles and 3hrs, and the advantage of heading out early meant that we were back home for 10:45am. So plenty of the day left ahead, that said, I would end up spending 3hrs of it catching up on sleep.
