Another Early Walk - 22nd August 2020

Today was something rare, a hike with friends where we set off early, which is normally the realm of walking with Donna. Most of the time when with my walking buddies it's an 8:30am meet in the Peak District, but today we planned for a 7am meet up.

Now the main reason for that, was that Darrell was not due to be walking with us so we chose an earlier time, but, we were all pleased to see him turn up at our meeting point. In fact, he was there just a couple of minutes after I arrived at 6:40am.

We waited for Tony and his son Ash to turn up, followed a minute later by Malc who had surprised me as the forecast was for lots of rain and Malc does not like rainy walks. But today he had said that "By hell of high water"he would be there.

It wouldn't be a massive walk today, the route I had planned was only 6 miles, however half-way or so around there was a bit of a 'sting', as the route from Bamford up to Bamford Edge is about a mile of continuous incline. In fact, over the whole route the total ascent is around 1,500ft!

Thankfully the weather forecasters were rather off the mark, as although the skies did darken on occasions, apart from the odd spot or two the rain held off until we were in sight of our cars; a lucky break there. In fact, for most of the walk it was just shorts and t-shirt for me, it was only when we took a seat on top of a very windy Bamford Edge that I slipped into my coat so as not to allow the sweat to evaporate and make me cool down too much.

Through the walk there were a lot of opportunities for photos, particularly on the heather covered hilltops, and as four out of the five of us were carrying cameras, we were all well armed for the job.

When we arrived back at the cars we had been walking for only 3hrs, but to be fair the steep incline mid-walk definitely made up for the time and distance.
