Last night I went out on an hours bike ride so did wonder if it was the best idea given that today I would be out hiking, especially when my calves were a little tight as the evening wore on. However, nothing to worry about as I was as ready as ever when I left home at 7:30am this morning.
We met just behind the river in Baslow for our 10 mile circular walk. For a change it wasn't me making the plan for the walk, so it was more relaxing not having to think about regularly checking the map as we walked. Malcolm had to drop out last night, but today in addition to myself, Darrell and Nigel, we had a new companion in Stuart, a close friend of Tony so a good group with plenty to talk about.

The first section was the hard part, just over 2 miles all uphill. Not that steep, but relentless so a tester before the legs were fully awake. As we arrived on the top at the start of Baslow Edge, the humid conditions were thankfully helped by what was a fairly strong breeze. As we walked along the path it was great to see the Highland Cattle, today not that active as they all just laid down watching the world go by.
We crossed Curbar Gap and then continued along Curbar Edge and Froggatt Edge with great views out over the valley, eventually arriving at The Haywood, close to Nether Padley.

The path now took us steeply downhill through the woods until we arrived in the lovely little hamlet of Grindleford where we took the opportunity of sitting outside the cricket pavilion for lunch. After a break of around 20 minutes we continued on our way. The rest of the walk was a steady one, we followed the Derwent Valley Heritage Way, through woods and across open fields, all the way back to Baslow.
The weather could have been better as it was very grey, there were plenty of showers, but we can't really complain as they weren't particularly heavy so we didn't need to wrap up, which, would have been a bit of a nightmare given how humid it was. By around 2pm I was back home, and boy was I looking forward to a shower.
