The last day before it's back to normality, yes I've not had any days off this festive period but to be honest it's not been that busy, mainly ticking over, so it's certainly not felt 100%. So what better than to finish with a nice stead hike.
We left home a little later than we had done on New Years Day, but still, arising at 6:30am on a Sunday when you really don't feel like it, is always a challenge. That said, "no pain, no gain" and all that...

At around 8:15am we arrived at the car-park in Baslow, and shortly after we were heading out of the village and into the Chatsworth Estate. The first part of the walk is along a well maintained (if not muddy in areas) path down through the estate until we came to the bridge over the River Derwent when we headed across the field to the hamlet of Edensor which I believe is solely for the use of people who either still work on the estate, or have worked there in the past. A beautiful place to live.
After admiring the architecture of the houses we headed uphill and through New Piece Wood, then back downhill to Calton Lees. It was at this point that we felt a few spots of rain and the clouds in the distance were looking quite menacing. However lady luck was on our side today and the rains never came.

The rest of the walk saw us follow the River Derwent back up through the estate, past some of the hundreds of Fallow and Red deer that roam around the parkland, then past the grand house until we arrived back in Baslow. All in, we had covered close to 7 miles and been walking for over three and a half hours. Not a bad little outing.
