It doesn't seem 5 minutes since YWP opened, however it was a few months over 10 ago, and just how has it improved over the years. And of course, it still continues to expand as they look to bring in more wildlife into new areas of the park. Of course, knowing how busy it gets with groups of school children we made sure that we arrived there just as the gates opened.
And no surprise we didn't miss the hordes of kids, we headed off in a clockwise direction stopping off first at the Babboons, and within 2 minutes we were hit by the first group. To be expected really as no matter where you go in the park you just can't escape them
We were really looking forward to seeing the Rhino's as when we last went a couple of years ago they had prepared the area where they would be kept, but the animals themselves hadn't yet arrived. And they didn't disappoint, currently two of them at the park and they are truly magnificent beasts, and actually very graceful which is hard to believe when you look at how they are built!
Luck was not on our side however when we went to see the rescued Brown Bears as there is now only one left, and she was hidden away in her den preparing for hibernation so we were out of luck. That said, we had more than made up for it with the magnificent Polar Bears in their recently enlarged enclosure. Two of them play fighting in their lake, one just walking around and the old boy Victor just chilling in the sun.
All of the animals are a joy to see, the sound of the Lions, the non-stop Lemurs, the shy Warthogs and my favourites the Meerkats, such cheeky and cute little animals. All in we were there for over 4hrs, a great way to spend half a day.
