Yesterday we enjoyed the elation of England Rugby beating the All Blacks, followed by a wet afternoon watching Rotherham Titans lose at home to Richmond. So given that the skies had cleared we just had to make the best of it, especially when you consider that we just don't get out into the Peak District much these days.
An early start was the order of the day, but unfortunately we missed sunrise as it wasn't until late Saturday that we remembered that the clocks were going back an hour. However we still got out there around 7:45am and parked on Ashopton Viaduct that carries the A57 and crosses the bottom section of Ladybower Reservoir. The walk around the reservoir is a steady one, a few undulations but no hills at all.
It was amazing thinking back to how low the water levels were a year ago when we did this same walk, but also walked in the bottom of the reservoir around the old ruins of the village that was flooded many years ago to allow the reservoir to be built. What a difference a year makes. Now this time of the year you can't but marvel at the colours all around you. Every shade of yellow, oranges, a smattering of red and the robust greens of the conifers.
The walk is around 7.5 miles and took us approximately 3hrs, not too taxing but enough to burn off a few calories from the pizza and chocolate biscuits last night. Not a bad morning.
