Lumsdale - 24th July 2019

Well that was a long night! It was just so warm during the dark hours, I couldn't get to sleep, me and Donna watched the thunderstorm between around 2am and 3am and then I went back downstairs until 5:45am before eventually managing an hour and a half back in bed. So fully expecting a bit of a sleep at some point during the day.

Of course the pattern or of the last few days would continue, out early until the heat beat us, and then back to the cottage. Again we wouldn't have too far to drive, just 20 minutes down to the outskirts of Matlock to Lumsdale Valley, another local area with lots of history.

We arrived around 9:30am and spent a couple of hours there. It's a small but relatively steep (and very green) valley peppered with the remains of historic buildings bordering the small river, with a number of waterfalls tumbling down the valley. We're not taking waterfalls on an 'Iceland scale' but a number of rocky cascades adding to the ambience of the area.

Thankfully being our fairly early meant that we had the area almost to ourselves, apart from a couple of Carling swilling blokes loitering around the waters edge, so no crowds to battle as I believe that it's normally a fairly busy area during core hours. After a couple of hours we were back at the car, it was just so sticky out there. So back to the cottage for lunch, and then a few hours catching up on sleep.
