It was only 7 days ago that we returned from our 12 day trip to Iceland, however it now seem so long ago. I always find it amazing how the wait to go away seems to drag, but after you return the time just seems to fly by. So for the time being it's back to trips out for the day, or in the case of today half a day.
I know I mention this all the time, but we do like to go walking early so to avoid the crowds, especially this time of year when the better weather brings people out. So, up before 6am, and on our way by 7am. Thankfully you also get the benefits of the lack of traffic at this time of day, so our trip to the far side of Sheffield and out to the Eastern edge of the Peak District was complete by 7:50am as we parked at Upper Burbage.
Today's walk was in the opposite direction to the last time we were here a few weeks ago, and on that occasion it was thick with fog so not much to see, however although today was overcast, visibility wasn't too bad. So off we went towards Stanage Edge.
To be honest I love walking along Stanage Edge, the views on a nice day are awesome in all directions and this time of the year when the fields and trees are looking lush with their green foliage, it makes you proud to live in this country. It's not just the views up here, it's the variety of all the rock formations that just add so much interest to the walk.
After two to three miles traversing the rocky edge we dropped down towards the woodland around Sheepwash Bank where we stopped for a snack and a drink under cover of the trees which by now was a welcome relief as the sun had started to peek through and there was no breeze to speak of so it was starting to get a tad stuffy. It was around this point when we spoke to another couple who were walking Lands End to John'O'Groats....so a little more than we were doing today
We followed the path back up the hill to the top of the Edge again and the last mile or so saw us follow the same route back to the car; albeit with a lot more people now in the area. By mid-day we had arrived back home having had a great start to our Sunday.
