As it's my Duty Manager week, and therefore covers the whole of the Easter Weekend I couldn't really get up to much. Also, with Donna working most of the weekend we wouldn't have been able to do much anyway so to be honest we probably timed it right.
That said, I did want to get up onto Baslow Edge to see the Highland Cattle calves who had been given a sabbatical and were back up there until the end of the summer. So I decided to pack my phone, laptop and notebook and head out for a couple of hours after dropping Donna off at work.
I arrived about 7:45am and it was quiet so I could head the mile or so across the moor to where the cattle are often found in the morning. And they hadn't let me down as they were slowly making their way along the path towards the 'Edge'. I plonked myself on a rock and just sat there for about 30 minutes whilst they made their way past me, some were quite inquisitive and came within about 3ft of me, and some just weren't interested at all. It did allow me to get some great photos.
For the rest of the period I took a walk along the rocky edge just looking out over the Derwent Valley, yes I took a few photos but I have taken many up here before and in much better conditions for photography. The harsh sunlight is no particular friend of a man with a camera in hand.
Thankfully by 10am I was back at the car, and I say thankfully as the unseasonally warm Easter weather had brought out the masses, and it was getting a tad warm for a cold lover like me. So a short trip, but just what the doctor ordered.
