I hardly get to put anything on here at the moment, long work days all week and weekends busy with other stuff. The regular hikes when I was on my 'break' from work seem so far in the past. A sign of things to come unfortunately... Anyway, to last night.
Last year we had signed up for the Rotherham Hospice 10k night walk, they really helped look after my dad those few days after coming out of hospital then him passing away so we have a lot to be thankful for. And we really enjoyed the event, so when it was advertised again a couple of months ago Donna was quick to get us signed up.
We were picked up at 7:30pm by our friends Kenny and Kate who were joining us, we headed to the supermarket where they had sectioned off some of the parking and jumped on the vintage bus which took us to the start of the walk. It was around 8:30pm when we arrived, we registered and soaked up the atmosphere for a while before the warm-up started around 9:45pm. Then at 10pm sharp, everyone set off.
It's not a particularly hard walk if you're relatively fit as it takes you along the paths beside some main roads, through an estate then back up the hill. That said, it's 10km so not to be sniffed at. However, that's the point, it's meant to be inclusive of young, old, all sizes, and even a couple of people in wheelchairs took part. An event for everyone.
Along the route there was a couple of 'pit stops' where we could take on water and grab a banana or two, they were certainly a bonus on what was a mild summer night. We arrived back around 12:30am where we collected our medal of participation. A great evening and roll on next year.
