Wallington Hall - 12th May 2018

Lovely weather for our first full day in Northumberland, in fact perfect weather for us as it was sunny but not too warm at around 15c, and a refreshing light breeze as a bit of a bonus. We'd both be happy if it was to stay this way all week. We'd planned a steady first day; when Donna was looking at some of the leaflets in the cottage last night she saw one for Wallington Hall and Gardens, about a 35 minute drive away through country lanes and beautiful countryside.

Having had to get up early for what seems like an age, I was hoping to stay asleep for a little longer this morning but ended up getting out of bed at 5am - yes, 5am when on holiday! That said, it didn't work out too badly as the sun was rising and there was a lot of low mist in the fields around the cottage so of course I grabbed the camera and tripod and was off out into the garden to take full advantage.

By 10am we were ready for the off, and by around 10:30am were pulling into the car-park.  As the Hall itself didn't open until noon we set off around the stunning gardens for a couple of hours, enjoying walking along the river, under the historic bridge, around ornamental ponds and not forgetting the walled garden. A little different to most walled gardens as they tend to be square or rectangular but this one was a rather angular, almost flat-ended triangle sort of shape.

After taking a seat and eating our packed lunch we spent a little over an hour in the house itself, plenty of history as you would expect, very beautiful rooms and a very handsome exterior. A great find by Donna.

As we were a little isolated out in the countryside there wasn't anywhere else that we could go that wouldn't be busy with it being a Saturday afternoon so we just headed back to the cottage for a relaxing late afternoon and evening. Well we are on holiday aren't we?
