After a busy few days, and as my legs were aching a little we had an easy morning by the cottage. We had a few chores to do, a little tidying up and some washing, then took a couple of chairs out into the garden to enjoy the sunshine for a while. It was nice just to sit out in the sunshine for an hour, looking out over the countryside and watching all the lambs chasing each other around in the fields in front of us. A great way to just chill out.
After a nice lunch comprising bacon from the butchers, chestnut mushrooms, Italian tomatoes and seeded bread, we set off to Allen Banks & Stawards Gorge. I'd found it when searching on the National Trust website and it was only a short drive away. Not a long walk planned, just a few miles and mainly in the shade of the trees so thankfully not too hot.
It was a beautiful setting, a deep gorge with the river running over a very rocky bed, and steep wooded sides with the sun glinting through the trees. I would guess that it gets busy at the weekends with families but today it was quiet; in fact we saw no more than about 10 people on the whole 2hr+ walk.
On the way back we stopped off in Bardon Mill as we'd seen signs for a pottery factory shop, but, it was just closing and not what we expected anyway. We had expected small pieces of pottery, but in fact they made large garden pots so we weren't that bothered.
So back to the cottage for tea, and a relaxing evening in the cottage. No stargazing tonight.
