After getting out into the Peak District last week for the first time in a long while, another trip out there today was on the cards. Donna was working so I tried to arrange something with the folks that I go walking with on a Sunday; unfortunately both Malcolm and Colin were unavailable, however Mel and Dianne were both able to meet up. The first time in 3 months that I'd seen them so lots to catch up with.
We met at 10am in the car-park near the bottom end of Ladybower Reservoir, with the first part of the walk taking us a couple of miles along the side of the reservoir before heading uphill. The weather was cloudy, in fact it was soon to turn wet and rained for about an hour in total. We reached the end of the reservoir where it gets quite close to the A57, then took the steep and rocky path uphill. Surprisingly given that I hadn't been up a steep hill for a couple of months, I just flew up there.
The steady incline out in the open at the top took us past Hope Cross and along the route of the old Roman road, passing Hope Brink and then continuing upwards to the top of Win Hill where the views were as always really impressive. It was rather busy up there as lots of youngsters out doing the Duke of Edinburgh - always great to see.
We could from up here see the car about a mile away - just the very steep and sharp descent back down. Now parts of the path back down can be quite challenging if you're are a little unsure on your feet, steep sections and relatively exposed. However, as long as you're careful then you will be ok.
Back at the car at 2pm having covered over 8 miles with 2,300ft of ascent so a great workout and lots of chatting and catching up. Oh, and of course the last 20 minutes or so was in glorious sunshine - great timing or what!
