Rufford Park - 7th April 2018

And another weekend day when Donna was off work and the weather had beaten us. The forecast was for rain in the Peak District all day, but, if we headed east then we might just get away with it. Therefore after perusing our list of places to go over in Nottinghamshire we decided on Rufford Park.

We left home around 7:45am, headed to Harthill to the butchers and greengrocers, then took the long drive to Newark to do some Waitrose shopping. Yes we could have gone to Sheffield, but as Rufford is around half-way between where we live and Newark we would at least be in a similar part of the world.

It was around 10am by the time we arrived at Rufford, and as with our last trip out to Clumber we parked at the opposite end of the estate to where we normally park. This time the Mill end, and not the Abbey end. As the drain from the lake was crossing the road at the weir we did spend 10 minutes or so watching to see which cars ignored the road closed signs and splashed their way through the water; like kids but who cares.

Well the forecast wasn't far off the mark, we managed about an hour before the rain started. Initially a few drops which gave us a false sense of security, but it was soon to come with vengeance and on occasions it became really quite heavy. So our walk was cut a little short but we did get 3 or so miles under the belt. Fresh air at least.
