Yorkshire Coast - 23rd to 25th January 2018

As I was hoping to be starting my new job on the 29th, Donna suggested that we get away for a few days before I became engrossed in learning about my new employer and all the new challenges ahead; so where better to go than the coast and stay at our favourite destination up there - Whitby.

So Donna had a trawl around the internet and found a lovely apartment called The Old Joiners Shop. Which, turned out to be a gorgeous little find, relatively new on the rental market and the decor was of the highest standard. A great choice.

Our plan was to drive up past Whitby and spend some time in Staithes, mainly because we wanted to have lunch to Dotty's Tea Room, a lovely little vintage cafe on the narrow cobbled streets of the old fishing port. So after driving for two and a half hours, we parked at the top of the hill and walked down the steep path and we were gutted - it was closed due to sickness! So, instead we spent an hour or so around the harbour and then headed back to Whitby as there was nowhere open to grab some food.

That evening we had a walk out onto the pier and around the town before heading back to the apartment for a cosy night in.

The next day after a lazy morning we left the apartment to undertake our traditional walk from Whitby to Sandsend and back. A steady walk and great just to soak in the sea air. The weather was dry, in fact half way into the walk the sun kept peeking from between the clouds, and apart from a 5 minute shower we had no rain. As we arrived back at the apartment I checked my phone to find that we had walked just under 8 miles whilst we had been out so a decent workout - which was good considering that we'd had chocolate biscuits the night before!

I went to sleep early that night, so was awake early Thursday morning but as always, I didn't beat Donna as she was sat watching TV in the lounge when I came out of the bedroom. I was toying with the idea of getting out early as the promise was a clear start to the day, and after mulling over it I gave in and at 7am headed down to the pier spending just over an hour taking photos. The glorious sunrise never materialised but still some good shots.

We had packed up, and at 10am headed down the coast to spend a few hours in Scarborough before heading back home via Leeds. Again as traditional as we are, we spent 30 minutes or so sat out near the lighthouse just enjoying the fresh air, and then made a visit to the Harbour Bar for ice-cream. And by 12:30 we were heading back south after a lovely short break.
