Rivelin Glen - 12th January 2018

Donna was off today so as we hadn't managed a walk together since New Years Day we weren't going to waste the day, But, true to the forecast it was thick with fog so little point heading out into the hills as there wouldn't be much to see, so I looked for an alternative.

I considered a National Trust property but none were open as they tend to close for the month after Christmas for maintenance, so looked for somewhere else we could have a walk but not too far. Now I've driven along Rivelin Valley many times but never really looked to see what was there, and I was amazed to see what was along the 3 mile Rivelin Glen Trail. So much history all along the trail, so many small waterfalls and weirs, it looked like a good place for a walk and photos.

We crossed Sheffield and arrived there around 10:15am and headed east along the trail; which not surprisingly was a little muddy underfoot in places. We were surprised to have to cross streams at two points, one across slightly submerged stepping stones, and another along the top of a weir.
Challenging but enjoyable.

It was around 2:30pm when we arrived back at the car, we'd walked for 4hrs and covered around 6 miles so had a decent workout - yes the path is relatively flat, but the distance still allowed a few calories to be burnt off. A really interesting outing, and one definitely for those with families, but still plenty for us oldies to enjoy.
