Snowy Win Hill - 12th December 2017

Malc had mentioned a few days ago that he was off in the run up to his weekend working, so as Donna was working I asked if he fancied a trip into the Peaks for an early walk; and he was more than happy to come out for a hike. So we picked him up at 7am, and by just before 8am we had dropped Donna off at work and were parked up in the lovely village of Hope.

As there'd been a good bit of snow out in Derbyshire I planned a route that would give us a good workout, and treat us to some great views of the snowy hills. We parked close to the Cheshire Cheese pub in Hope which brought back a lot of memories as I spent a couple of weekends locally in my teens, and our evening treat was an evening in the historic pub.

Almost from the off it was a slog as the path took us directly up the steep incline for about a mile as the crow flies, right to the top of Win Hill. Hard work but the rewards were more than worth it. Views in all directions, and a great opportunity for Malc to fly his drone. It was VERY cold though, the car was showing -7.5c down in the village, so at 1,500ft and with a strong wind it was bitter.

After 15-20 minutes we headed down Hope Brink, then downhill past Edale End. When we arrived in the bottom of the valley we made the decision to shorten the walk as the whole planned route would probably stretch to 8hrs given the conditions, and as it gets dark early it would have been too much.

So we just headed back along the valley bottom to Hope, we still did nearly 7 miles and around 1,400ft of ascent so it was a decent bit of exercise and the conditions were perfect for winter walking. We couldn't have asked for more.

A quick tipple in the Cheshire Cheese, then the trek back across Sheffield and I was home for around 2pm.
