Change of Plan - 1st December 2017

Our original plan for today was a walk in the Lumsdale Valley just outside of Matlock, famed for it's heritage trail and waterfalls. And as we had noticed during the week that it would also be the start of the Matlock Christmas Market - we'd double up and give that a go as well.

As it was the first day of the market we decided to head there first as going after the walk would result in bigger queues and more difficulty finding parking. However that turned out to be a mistake.

We had no problem parking up, but the market was a bit of a letdown as 80% of the stalls were your typical market stall that you could find almost anywhere. Plus, as it was being held inside some large marquees it was packed. Not my sort of fun. So we decided to make a quick exit.

However, as the town had now become considerably more busy there was too much traffic to head back across it and out to Lumsdale, so instead we decided to just head up through the Peak District for a long scenic drive home.

On our route we would be heading close to the 'edges' above Baslow/Curbar etc so instead of heading back across Sheffield we parked up at Curbar Gap and spent a couple of hours up along Curbar Edge just enjoying the views out across the hills as the weather was gorgeous.

As the light just started to diminish as night started to close in, we headed back to the car but not before we enjoyed the delights of Jolly's; the small food van in the car park that serves warm drinks and lovely cakes. A nice end to what had started as a slightly frustrating day out.
