As it's the festive period and people tend to be busy, or at least, they don't want to be up and out at the crack of dawn, I decided to got for another solo walk today after dropping Donna off at work. Clear weather was forecast so it would have been a travesty to have missed out. And today, the plan was to take my camera gear and limit the photos I took to good ones, not just snaps detailing my route.
Well I parked up in the main car-park at Longshaw and had the whole place to myself. As it was still a little dark especially as I walked through the trees I didn't take any photos for the first 20 minutes or so, but the sky was clear to the east so the light soon started to illuminate the snow covered ground.
I walked down through the estate, down the hill to Nether Padley before turning up towards Grindleford Station where I had hoped to have a warm drink at the cafe. That is, if I'd taken any money with me! I'd spent around 2hrs on this part of the walk and not seen a soul until I got to the station.
The next part of the walk took me up through Bolehill Quarry where I had hoped to get a few good photos of the old millstones; in fact this was the main reason for my walk. But, although I have seen them all over the place on previous walks, I just never came across any today. Plus, with the frequent snow showers it didn't really lend itself to spending time swapping lenses and setting up the tripod so I didn't pursue it.
After crossing the road I went around the bottom of Millstone Edge then up over Over Owler Tor and then back across the Longshaw Estate to the car. It was so different now, cars were lining the lanes, all the car-parks were full as people were enjoying the sunshine and snow - great to see.
A thoroughly enjoyable 5hr walk, just the trip back across the city before heading home.
