Walk: 11pm to 3pm, 8 miles and 1,050ft of ascent
Since our last visit to Chesterfield we had been thinking of making another trip down to the Thursday market, however as Donna's friend Marie was coming up to a birthday, plans were changed. Donna still went there, but with Marie and another friend Lindsey so they could enjoy a birthday lunch, and I asked Malcolm if he was free for a walk.
I had to head down to Chesterfield anyway as I needed to drop off some power tools with a friend; Richard Clegg, so after dropping Donna off at Marie's, myself and Malcolm 'headed south' with me having planned a walk not too far from Chesterfield, and somewhere I hadn't been before.
After dropping the cordless saw off we took the short drive west, a few miles just outside Chesterfield to Linacre Reservoirs. An area popular with locals we discovered on arrival, and you could see why. Three smallish reservoirs, two dams, gorgeous woodland walks, streams, quint little bridges, a stunning place for an autumn walk.
Now this was in essence a walk of two halves. The first half involved walking on well maintained forest paths, and the middle section about 4 miles on muddy paths through fields. It was so muddy in places we were finding it very difficult in keeping our footing, and carrying a camera in one hand doesn't lend itself to good balance and the security of the camera!
That said, it didn't really detract from the enjoyment of the walk. Malc managed a drone flight in the woods to test out his close range piloting skills, and then a sky high over the reservoir panorama. The footage from both flights was stunning.
After returning to Malc's for a quick coffee and to review the drone footage, I then picked Donna up and time to head back home just as the rush hour was starting to build up. A satisfying day all round.
