Clumber Sunset - 5th November 2017

The plan today was to head over to Clumber Park to take advantage of the great weather; I just didn't fancy another trip over to the Peak District as although the destination is more than worth it, a more local adventure saving the long (ish) round-trip was a tad more preferable.

Now had we gone in the morning as I had planned I would probably have been cursing all the time, Donna pointed out that being the end of the kids holidays it was likely to be packed, so after seeing the sense in her suggestion we decided to go mid-afternoon to take advantage of the sunset.

We left a little after 3pm and caught the remnants of the hordes of visitors, many of the car-parks still being relatively full when we arrived around 3:15pm. Donna was right. After parking up we headed down the lake hoping to catch the 'snack wagon' before it closed - however my constant stopping to take photos resulted in us missing it by 10 minutes and neither of us being able to enjoy a hot-chocolate whilst admiring the view over the lake. To say that Donna was disappointed would be an understatement!

My use of the Photographers Ephemeris had paid dividends as we knew exactly where on the lake we needed to be to take advantage of the sunset over the water. And boy were we not disappointed; the sunset was stunning. Red and orange skies on the western horizon and pinks in the east and all reflecting on the water. My tripod, and some log exposures flattened out the ripples on the lake to provide some surreal photos.

We had another hour or so before we could get back to the car, so had to walk up the far side of the lake by torchlight - no surprise that we hardly saw another soul on the way back. As the skies were clear and the night sky looking glorious we spent about 30 minutes sat next to the lake enjoying the starry sky. Not a bad few hours out of the house if I do say so myself.
