Yesterday I checked out the weather forecast for today, and noticed that clear skies were promised for this morning. So when I picked Donna up from work last night I suggested that we might get up early and head out for sunrise.
Now Donna is always up VERY early, me not so. So, getting up at around 4am was going to be a big challenge. However I did it, and by 5:45am we were parked on Ashopton Bridge over Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District. Torches were the order of the day as it was still very dark, but we managed to find the footpath up to the top of Crook Hill where we parked ourselves on and around the rock formations that form the peak of the hill.
I had selected this point as we would be east facing, and I was hoping for some fog off the reservoir. Unfortunately no go, and whilst we did get the sunrise there were no clouds to add to the interest so I found myself taking photos in the main of the moon that was descending over the hills to the west' with a lovely pinkish sky surrounding it.
Donna was entertaining herself listening to music whilst I 'played around' with my camera and tripod. By around 8am I had taken enough photos so we set off on a walk.
We headed over Bridge-end-Pasture, just the sheep keeping us company, then took the path down through the wooded Hagg Side to the banks of a very low Ladybower Reservoir. We had about an hour's walk back to the car, obviously it would be interspersed with me taking photos, especially as the water was still so there were some great reflections.
Our arrival back at the car at 10:45am had seen us out for 5hrs, and we'd walked a little over 6 miles so had our exercise for the day. Now just a 15 minute drive to Hathersage and a cooked breakfast as our reward.
